Local Honey is the solo effort of Kelly Brown, former lead vocalist for the band, franklyScarlet. Frustrated with the music business and domination of corporate radio, Kelly draws inspiration from her own experience in an unsigned band.
A visual artist, writer and musician, Kelly follows her instinct to marry image and sound in a effort to create a new vehicle for her music. The result is Local Honey — an art and entertainment entity that is both a website gallery and a musical group that performs multi-media shows. As the curator and producer of such shows, it is the intention of Kelly, a.k.a. “Honey” to create alternative venues that do not impose the boundaries and restrictions often placed on artists by labels, galleries. publishers and other corporate entities.
Freedom of expression without format is the mantra.
Kelly has won awards from Billboard and Musician magazines, and has been honored with guest invitations to the Kerrville Folk Festival and Telluride New Folk Festival . She can be heard as the voice on CNN, and various television and radio commercials. She has performed with Bonnie Raitt and Sarah McLachlan; and has opened for David Bowie, Joan Osborne, Lisa Loeb, Earth, Wind and Fire and others.
